Simple Steps to Clean An Air Conditioner

Air conditioners have become an essential part of our society and making daily activities more comfortable to do especially on hot days. It is important to maintain it for efficient functionality, by regular cleaning and maintenance, and keeping the condenser coils clean is an integral aspect to how well the system works.

The condenser coils in the Air Conditioner while functioning regularly releases heat from the air conditioning system into the atmosphere to prevent overheating. They also regulate the temperature of the refrigerant during the cooling process. However, the Air Conditioner get dirty over time especially the condenser coils due to its location, below are the steps to clean an Air Conditioner:

1. Turn off your air conditioner and ensure that the power supply is disconnected.

2. Remove the outer shroud covering the condenser unit. Be careful while doing so, and make sure to keep the screws and other hardware safe.

3. Clean the outside of the condenser with a hose. This will remove any dirt, debris, and leaves that have accumulated on the outside of the condenser.

4. Turn off the power supply to the fan motor and unscrew the fan blades. The fan blades are usually held in place with a few screws. Once they are unscrewed, remove the fan and set it aside.

5. Using a brush and vacuum, clean the fan blades and the inside of the condenser. Make sure to clean all the areas that are difficult to reach.

6. Once the fan and the condenser are cleaned, turn on the power to the fan and reattach the fan blades.

7. Take a brush and clean the condenser fins. The fins are located behind the fan and are what cools the air coming into the air conditioner. If there is dirt and debris on the fins, it can block the flow of air and reduce the efficiency of the AC unit.

8. Reattach the shroud and turn on the air conditioner.

By following these steps, you can clean the condenser coils in your air conditioner and ensure that it runs at optimal efficiency. This will help reduce your energy costs and improve the comfort level in your home.
